Attendance
Ensuring regular attendance is crucial for the success of students. Attending school regularly not only helps children academically but also fosters a sense of routine, responsibility, and engagement with their learning environment. Consistent attendance allows students to fully participate in classroom activities, build relationships with peers and teachers, and stay on track with their educational journey. At CDSD, we prioritize attendance because we understand its significant impact on student achievement and overall well-being.
For more information on our attendance policies, please visit the Board Attendance Policy page on our district website.
Together, let's strive to make every day count for our students' future success.
Attendance is required at school. If your child is ill and unable to attend, please write a note or obtain a doctor’s note indicating the reason for absence and return it within 3 days of their return to school. Students are also permitted to miss 5 days each school year for an educational trip or activity. These absences should be approved a week in advance using the Educational Trip form. Please reach out to the school office for the appropriate paperwork if you’re planning a trip which requires your child to be absent.
Quick Reminders:
- If your student is absent from school, a note with a parent signature MUST be handed in within 3 days of the absence.
- A parent/guardian signature is needed on the absence note. Calling the school or emailing to say that your student will be absent is kind and considerate, but a NOTE with a WRITTEN SIGNATURE is still needed!
- To hand a note in, you can:
- Send it in with your student – please just make sure your student hands it in within 3 days!
- Fax it: (717)657-9767
- Take a picture of it and email it to wheattendance@cdschools.org
- Bring it in yourself
- The school doors open at 8:45am. At 9:00am, all students should be in their classrooms ready to learn. Any student not in their classroom by 9:00am will be considered tardy (late) and will report to the office upon entering the building for a tardy slip.
- If you are planning to take an Educational Trip (each student K-5th Grade can have up to 5 approved Educational Trip Days), please stop by the office to get the paperwork and fill it out ahead of time. Forms should be submitted to be approved by the principal at least 7 days prior to the absence. No Educational Trips will be approved during the PSSA Testing Windows.
- The PTA has provided these notes to give parents a quick and easy way to communicate routine absences such as:
-
Being late to school due to doctor/ dental appointment
-
Early dismissal for medical or other appointment
-
Returning to school after being absent for illness
-
Will be a car rider rather than a bus rider for a particular school day
-
**When applicable, the above form should be accompanied by a note from the doctor/ dentist.
